Karma Schmarma

It really does exist. Whatever is my proof you ask? Well, I got a big ol' dose of it today.

I headed over to a local elementary school where a few of us from the office mentor as part of a reading program on weekly basis. One of our mentors was out this week so I partnered her up with my student and set down to mentor two 6th grade girls. Seriously, no biggie, even for an amateur like each week. OMG, I had no idea what I was in for.

This girl - she is Me. From about 22 yrs ago.

Bright, articulate, far ahead of some of her classmates. And she was antsy. Lordy did this girl have ants in her pants. And she never shut up. And she kept talking about scary movies. Have I mentioned I hate scary movies? Then she went on and on about this one time when she was in the school bathroom with her girlfriends and they turned the light off and said "Bloody Mary" five times. You all remember this one don't you? Of course, at this point Miss Smarty Pants SWEARS a hand came out of the mirror and swatted at her. She was convinced.

I would try to start another activity, she would tell me about some scene from the movie Saw. Have I mentioned I hate scary movies? I mean utterly hate them. I am 35 and they still give me bad dreams. I watched The Happening (which sucked big time) and had a dream that my tree I was about to cut down hated me.

Back to the topic at hand. I was totally and utterly annoyed and just wanted to tape her mouth shut. I know that's wrong. So very wrong.

What I didn't know is that she was me. I didn't see it until I was walking back in to the office.

Yep, definitely karma.

Remember all those times when your Mom or some other adult said "I hope when you grow up and have kids, they are JUST LIKE YOU!" This just proves that the kid doesn't have to actually be one of your own.

Then again, I think I turned out pretty well so I have high hopes for Miss Smarty Pants.

I'm currently parenting a mini me...It's totally hell. And I'm still hating my Mom for wishing this on me. As if five kids wasn't enough.
